Here’s an example of the development of a pencil drawing in Photoshop. This picture is from a book in progress that I’m working on with the writer Clara Sneed, represented by the Andy Ross Literary Agency. Scroll down to see all three stages.

This is an undeveloped scan of my original pencil drawing.

Here I’ve added several adjustment layers and masks to get the contrast I want in the drawing.

And here’s the final picture with additional layers, including a black “ink” line, gray “wash,” and white highlights. Other images on this Web site follow a similar process, but with various layers of color added with several of Photoshop’s blending modes.
